The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has uncertainly delayed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 after a few players and care staff tried positive for COVID-19.
We have suspended the IPL for the time being. The new window will be worked out later on. An assertion will follow soon," IPL Governing Council executive Brijesh Patel told Sportstar on Tuesday.
In a warning, the BCCI expressed: "The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a crisis meeting have collectively chosen to defer IPL 2021 season, with prompt impact. The BCCI would not like to settle on the well-being of the players, support staff, and different members engaged with getting sorted out the IPL. This choice was taken keeping the security, wellbeing, and prosperity of the multitude of partners as a top priority."
"These are troublesome occasions, particularly in India, and keeping in mind that we have attempted to acquire some energy and cheer, in any case, it is basic that the competition is presently suspended and everybody returns to their families and friends and family in these difficult occasions," the assertion read.
The choice approaches closely following Monday's IPL 2021 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad being rescheduled after the Knight Riders' spinner Varun Chakravarthy and crease bowler Sandeep Warrier tried positive for Covid-19.
